Aaron Hewson was arrested an hour after fleeing the scene of the serious accident in which his Mercedes had struck a man who was crossing the road.

The 35-year-old, who admitted using the bus lane as a shortcut, later told police: “I panicked and I didn’t know what to do.”

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told Sean O’Callaghan had suffered serious foot injuries that had left him unable to work for months following the collision on Dereham Road at New Costessey.
