He was captured on CCTV approaching the vehicle outside the centre on Rouen Road in the early hours of December 1 last year.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told the damage had a “significant impact” on emergency services and NHS resources.

Kentish, of Clintergate Road in Redenhall, near Harleston, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

Prosecutor Jennifer Holt said when arrested the maintenance worker had told police he had been “blackout drunk” at the time.

Representing himself in court, he said: “Stupidly I went out with a lot on my mind. I overdid it massively to the point where I don’t remember the evening.

“It’s not an excuse for what happened and I apologise for it.”

He was fined £533 and ordered to pay £500 compensation and £223 costs.
