A deepfake is an image or video that has been digitally altered with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to replace the face of one person with the face of another.

The creation of realistic looking sexually explicit deepfakes is growing rapidly, with so-called "nudification" apps easily available online.

Experts fear it could also damage democracy and trust.

The warning comes after George Freeman, Conservative MP for Mid Norfolk, reported an AI-generated video claiming he had defected to Reform to police after it was widely circulated online.
