'Urination and Sweet Caroline through a megaphone' - locals on life next to protests

Protestors urinating outside their homes and being kept awake by Sweet Caroline sung through a megaphone are some of the problems faced by those in the neighbourhood of the Brook Hotel in Bowthorpe.

Regular demonstrations are currently being held by anti-immigration campaigners, with more planned this weekend. Counter-protestors also appear, voicing their support for asylum seekers.

Traffic chaos has left some unable to leave their homes to get to work or run errands.

Others feel unsafe and frightened to venture near the demonstrators.

Several neighbours were keen to share their experiences but reluctant to share their names in case of retaliation.

One woman, aged in her early 20s, said: "I do night shifts but I can't sleep when I need to because of the noise. Sweet Caroline, being sung through a megaphone, often wakes me up.

"It can go on for hours.

"I feel scared and run........
