How a night out at the pub ended in tragedy

Neil McGibbon, who had been drinking at the Kings Head in Loddon, hit his head on a kerb outside after being struck by one of the men.

The 58-year-old died of his injuries in hospital three days after the incident, on November 10, 2023.

Despite a major police investigation and a number of arrests, no one has ever been charged in connection with the violence.

But the events which led up to his injuries were laid bare at an inquest into his death at Norfolk Coroner's Court on Monday.

Mr McGibbon, who worked as a plumber and lived in nearby Chedgrave, had been spending the Friday evening in the pub with a friend before the pair popped out to get a kebab from a takeaway on the opposite side of Bridge Street.

In the street, they encountered the group of between five and eight men, in the mid 20s, who were said to be wearing "roadmen outfits",........
