Ivan Barnard, 71, and his group of volunteers, the ‘pathfinders’, have uncovered buildings and walkways at an overgrown wartime USAAF base in Rackheath.

Ivan hopes to restore the ruin - which is one of the very few commanding officers’ quarters that remain from the war – and bring it back to life.

Ivan said: “It is all original, it is currently a ruin, but it is salvageable.

“We are on a mission to save it.”

RECLAIMING HISTORY

The pathfinders have slowly uncovered the concrete walkways showing the plan of the area of the base which formed the officers' quarters and mess.

They have worked on the site since 2020, with the blessing of Broadland District Council.
