Protestors in tense stand-off as asylum hotel row reaches flashpoint
Hundreds took to the Brook Hotel in Bowthorpe as tensions surrounding the housing of asylum seekers in hotels around the county have reached a flashpoint.
The protests began at around 5pm with a march by protesters into the hotel's car park where the two groups rallied, separated by rows of police.
Some had been at the roadside near the hotel much earlier, waving flags, with some motorists honking their horns in support.

Protesters could be heard chanting “We want our country back “ and “stop the boats”.
Counter protesters could be heard saying: “Power to the people, no one here is illegal.
”No borders, no nations, stop the deportations.”
