“In many cases we’ve had to cancel officer rest days at short notice to have sufficient resources – so equally we recognise the impact this has on our staff too.”
She added: “The cost of policing a protest at the Brook Hotel is on average, about £56,000. In August this has cost almost £169,000."
According to the Home Office the average cost for a hotel room used to house asylum seekers in the UK was £118.87 per night in March this year.
If this cost remained the same for August it would mean the Brook Hotel - which has 80 bedrooms - would cost £9,509.60 per night to house asylum seekers and £294,797.60 in total for the month.
