Fears raised over the number of prisoners sleeping rough straight after release
Inspectors found that over the last year 22pc of convicts are homeless as soon as they leave the prison in Knox Road.
And a further 45pc of prisoners are at risk of ending up on the streets.
Last month, criminal Andrew Yallop was so desperate to go back to jail because he committed several offences, including burglary and damaging a police car, to get a prison sentence.
Before being jailed for six months he argued he wanted to be sent back behind bars because he was "extremely frustrated” at being released from a previous sentence with “no money, accommodation and support".
It comes as shoppers in Norwich have raised concerns over the rising number of homeless tents in the city centre.
The subway in St Stephens Street has been described as a shanty town due to the number of rough sleepers in the underground passageway.
