Part of the veranda outside Poundland in St Stephens Street crashed to the ground on January 13 after it was seen bulging with water for several weeks.

The incident closed down part of the busy shopping street and covered the footpath in debris.

Now, nearly nine months later, repairs have officially begun on the canopy, which has already been stripped of its panelling in fear of further collapse.
