Contractors have submitted a proposal outlining how the former Debenhams building in Norwich will be torn down as part of transformation into student accommodation.

Under the proposals, part of the site would be secured with scaffolding on both the outside and the inside so that it can be demolished safely using a top-down approach.

Once this has been completed, the remainder of the building will be knocked down with high-reach machinery.

A section of a property connected to the back of the building is expected to be retained while demolition works are carried out.

The owners of the site - Orford House Developments Ltd - lodged the plans to develop the building into accommodation and retail units in January last year.

But a year and a half later, Norwich City Council is yet to reach a decision over the application, and no date for when one can be expected has been set.
