People living in Park Lane, a road used by hundreds of drivers daily, are expecting three months of traffic chaos as Norfolk County Council is replacing the 600m-long footpath.

Drivers are being forced to join the "horrendous" traffic on Earlham Road to access Park Lane as it is closed to through traffic from its junction with Unthank Road.

Andrew Kingston, who lives on the corner of Mill Hill Road and Park Lane, is furious that the council has not contacted him.

He said: “We haven’t received any communication, I’m annoyed about that.

“It doesn’t take much to put a note through the door.

“I’m not even sure the work is necessary.

“Although we don’t live directly on the road it would be nice to be notified.

“Access will be limited for us for a period of time and the traffic is only going to worsen."

Hundreds of people living along Park Lane are affected by the road closures, along with drivers who use it as an access road from connecting streets.

A neighbour, who has lived in Park Lane for 50 years but did not wish to be named, said: “It was tricky yesterday walking along the narrow section of path to get out of the road.

“There's a tree nearby my house which has roots growing under the path.

“I have no idea what they are going to do with that.

“We haven’t been told where they are going to start, when we need to move our cars.

“There are no workmen in sight.”

A spokesman from Norfolk County Council said: “Currently, our contractors are carrying out preparations and final checks, ahead of work beginning.

"This is standard practice to make sure the work is carried out smoothly and safely.

"The pavement resurfacing works are set to begin on Monday.”
