Death of man who 'hit self destruct' sparks warning
Carl Johnson, of Poplar Close in Horsford, near Norwich, died at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital (N&N) on November 6 last year.
An inquest into his death heard that the 45-year-old had become dependent on alcohol, which in turn lead to his death from acute-on-chronic liver failure, known as ACLF.
On reviewing the evidence read out to the court, Norfolk’s senior coroner Jacqueline Lake said: “Mr Johnson had a complex medical history including alcohol misuse.

“He was diagnosed with acute alcoholic hepatitis and decompensated liver disease for which he had undergone hospital admission in 2023.
“He subsequently attended for follow-up treatment but ceased to do so from the end of July 2024.
“He continued to consume alcohol, and his health deteriorated, leading to his requirement for emergency admission to N&N on November 6.
“He was there given appropriate care and treatment but sadly........
