A&E doctor sent patient away day before he returned with fatal twisted bowel

Antony Jones was admitted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on November 8 last year where it emerged he had suffered a twisted bowel.

This later perforated, causing him to go into septic shock and he died on November 10 at the age of 62.

But an inquest into his death heard that just over 24 hours earlier he had attended the hospital's emergency department, where a GP sent him home - potentially missing a chance to detect his issue sooner.

Mr Jones had a complex medical history stemming from his premature birth and meningitis as a baby.

Despite his challenges, he was able to remain independent for the majority of his life.

However, in his later years, he required support from his parents and, after their deaths, his sister.
