And the find has also had a knock-on effect on another highways scheme to the west of Norwich, which will be suspended as a result.

The surprise discovery of a power cable beneath Taverham Road in Honingham means a separate scheme in Longwater Lane in Costessey will also be affected, as council officials try to head off the prospect of too much disruption at the same time.

What is this happening?

Norfolk County Council has been working on Taverham Road in Honingham, as part of moves to ensure changes on the A47 do not send rat-running drivers through villages such as Honingham, Weston Longville and Morton on the Hill.

The A47 scheme includes the removal of Easton roundabout and the closure of Church Lane, which leads off it to the north.
