Members of Stalham Farmers’ Club were shown the latest firefighting appliances at the Diamond Jubilee fire station in Carrow, Norwich.

Norfolk’s firefighter of the Year James Hawkins, crew manager of Red Watch, briefed the 20-strong party at the station where animal rescue and underwater search operations are also based.

As farmers were shown the range of equipment, many were amazed by one two-foot square item which, when fully inflated from an air bottle, could lift more than 30 tonnes.
