City boxing club expands with big focus on community impact
The club, which has served the city for more than 20 years, moved from The Kickstop in Whiffler Road after outgrowing the space and had its official opening earlier this month.
With the support of sponsors, volunteers, and local businesses, a dilapidated building on the grounds of The Open Academy has been transformed into a thriving hub for young people, offering not only boxing training but camaraderie, discipline and support.

After nearly six months of renovations, Club Secretary Katie Potts described the new space as “a real labour of love.”
MORE THAN BOXING
While the boxing club isn’t new, its purpose has grown even stronger. Katie says the aim is not just to teach boxing, but to use it as a tool to support young people’s mental health.
