Men and women to live 5 years longer than now by 2050: Lancet study
New Delhi: According to a new study recently published in Lancet, men and women are likely to live more than by five years by 2050. Additionally, disease burden may also shift from communicable to non-communicable diseases in the same timeline. And the estimated longevity in men and women is likely to occur despite environmental stress, geopolitical constraints and metaoblic stress. The current global life expectancy 73.6 years as of 2022 and it may increase to 78.1 years as of 2050. Countries with low life expectancies are also likely to witness a smaller gap in disparity.
The study also found that ischaemic heart diseases might continue to be the leading cause death and disability-adjusted life in the coming years. Stroke was so far the third-leading cause and by 2050, it might take the second spot. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) will take the third spot yet again. Diabetes and COPD were at the 5th and 6th spot and they both will take a step upwards to the 3rd and 4th spot.
