Germany, Spain, Belgium win in World Cup qualifiers
New Delhi: Germany won for the first time in five matches to recover from a shock first loss in an away World Cup qualifier while Spain and Belgium notched up comprehensive wins to stay on course for a spot at the 2026 edition.
Four-time world champions Germany needed over an hour to break down Northern Ireland before scoring twice in three minutes in the second half in a 3-1 victory on Sunday.
Substitute Nadiem Amiri’s tap-in in the 69th minute and a free kick from Florian Wirtz shortly after ensured Germany’s first win in Group A.
It helped Germany bounce back from their shock 2-0 loss to hosts Slovakia on Thursday, in what was their first away defeat ever in a World Cup qualifier, in their opening group match.
