Will the Congress plans of pushing its campaign by fielding new faces bear fruit?
New Delhi: Congress, which ruled consecutively for 15 years under Sheila Dikshit from 1998 to 2013 is today struggling to make its presence felt in the Delhi Assembly elections. Not only are the top Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi missing from action, senior Delhi Congress leaders have opted out of contesting the assembly elections. Recently, when Congress announced one of its flagship guarantees for the Delhi women — Pyari Didi Yojana giving financial assistance of Rs 2500 per month, the leader called in to do so was Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. As to why it could not be done by Priyanka Gandhi is a mystery? To announce its another important guarantee related to Rs 25 lakhs universal health insurance scheme, the party has roped in former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot. Perhaps, the Delhi Congress believes that it will be more impactful if such announcements are made by its state leaders who have already implemented such schemes in their states.
