Milkipur bypolls, BJP desperate for victory, SP desperate to deny it

The much anticipated battle between the ruling BJP and Samajwadi Party (SP) for the Milkipur assembly by-election in Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh is finally here. BJP’s Chandrabhan Paswan will take on SP’s Ajit Prasad in the polls scheduled for February 5. While BJP will be itching to avenge its defeat six months ago from Ayodhya Lok Sabha (officially Faizabad), SP will be looking to retain the seat it won in 2022 to ensure that its PDA (Picchde-Dalit-Alpsankhyak) formula that brought it immense success in the Lok Sabha election is still intact and still fatal for the saffron party.

Since the BJP’s defeat in Ayodhya came just five months after the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya and its inauguration by PM Narendra Modi in a widely publicised Pran Prathisthan event in January last year, it rankled badly with the BJP leadership.

Then SP rubbed salt on BJP’s wounds by making its first time Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad sit on the front benches in the Lok Sabha besides its National President Akhilesh Yadav. And since Awadesh Prasad was already an elected MLA from Milkipur, he had to resign, necessitating by-elections and giving Chief........
