4,157 advocates in UP have criminal cases against them, Allahabad HC expresses concern

The Allahabad High Court noted that even as several cases are registered against advocates in the state, the disciplinary proceedings are limited.

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court recently observed that Bar associations in Uttar Pradesh have failed to take steps against advocates who have turned ‘gangsters’ and ‘mafia elements’ in the state. It observed that every court in the state has legal professionals who have taken the field as a means of seeking safe refuge. It noted that even judges did not take any action against them.
