Kanwariyas will not be allowed to collect ‘Gangajal’ from Gaumukh; route is closed for visitors

Uttarkashi: Every year hundreds of Shiva devotees ‘Kanwariyas’ reach ‘Gaumukh’, the origin place of sacred river Ganga in Uttarakhand, during Kanwar yatra. These Shiva devotees won’t be allowed to travel on Gangotri-Gaumukh route to collect water this year. This route has been temporarily closed by the administration anticipating dangers for people approaching this place.

Announcing the closure of this route, Gangotri National Park administration has put up a notice board near Kankhu barrier which reads, “The route to Gaumukh has been damaged at several places. The culverts have been washed away due to excess water in Devgad,........
