Decade of Beti Bachao Beti Padaho: PM Modi’s vision helps girls spin success story
A decade ago on January 22, 2015, the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of saving daughters and connecting them with the right to education, to eliminate gender imbalance and declining child sex ratio (CSR) in India. Theis campaign was launched in response to the worrying situations of gender imbalance and declining child sex ratio, which turned from a policy initiative into a national movement.
Over the past 10 years, the scheme has achieved success in improving the sex ratio and raising awareness about gender equality and has proved to be a milestone in the upliftment of girl child’s overall status in India. The flagship scheme of the Modi government has successfully gained widespread support from people across India and ensured that the girls got access to education thereby removing long-standing gender biases. The scheme is run by three ministries – Women and Child Development, Health and Family Welfare and Human Resource Development.
It is worth noting that the Modi government has been very serious about the education of girls as the PM believes that when women are educated, the entire family gets educated. Thus he has been focusing on the betterment of girls by launching several schemes to encourage them to go to school and get primary to higher education.
