New Delhi: Continuing Bangladesh’s aggressive stance on minorities and enforcing stricter policies, Bangladeshi actress Meher Afroz Shaon was reportedly detained by the detective branch of the Bangladesh Police for questioning on charges of conspiring against the state. The detention took place on Thursday with additional commissioner Rezaul Karim Mollick stating that the actress was taken in after they received information against her. They declined to elaborate further. “After receiving some information, we have detained Meher Afroz Shaon for questioning,” Rezaul Karim Mollick, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told news agency ANI.

The detention of popular Bangladeshi actress Meher Afroz Shaon, who is a known critic of the interim Bangladeshi government, comes along with a series of protests and vandalism, including an attack on the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhaka.

In line with these events in the country, Shaon’s arrest is being seen as politically motivated. Especially since she had close ties to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her being critical of the present administration of Muhammad Yunus.
