Hubble observes surprising colouration of moons of Uranus
New Delhi: Astronomers have investigated the four largest moons of Uranus with the Hubble Space Telescope. The icy satellites of Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon, all named after characters from the works of William Shakespeare, are at a distance of 3.2 billion kilometres from the Earth. The astronomers could determine the characteristics of the surfaces of these moons using the ultraviolet imaging capabilities of Hubble. Scientists had predicted in theory that the magnetic field of the ice giant would have resulted in two-toned moons, with the trailing side being darker than the leading side, or the........
