ESA releases first images from inside-out Proba-3 Sun telescope
New Delhi: The European Space Agency has revealed the first images from its Proba-3 heliophysics observatory, made up of two spacecraft, a Coronagraph and an Occulter flying in precise formation flight to create an artificial solar eclipse. The Coronagraph blocks out the the face of the Sun, revealing its outer atmosphere or corona. The combined instrument plugs a crucial gap in monitoring the Sun between one and three solar radii, a gap that is also partially covered by ISRO’s Aditya-L1 spacecraft. Proba-3 will allow scientists to better track coronal mass ejections from the Sun, and improve predictions of space weather.
