Scientists had predicted based on theory that shrouded cosmic explosions that go unnoticed can be revealed by their light echoes. Now, astronomers have spotted such an explosion.

New Delhi: Astronomers have discovered among the clearest examples yet of a radio afterglow from a powerful gamma-ray burst, whose initial blast went unnoticed in optical frequencies. The Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP), a radio telescope made up of 36 antennas first detected a transient radio source designated as ASKAP J005512-255834, that explosively shed the total radio output of a billion Suns, then began to rapidly fade over time.
