Start of new era as Shubman Gill replaces Rohit Sharma as India's ODI captain for Australia series
New Delhi: In what marks the beginning of a new era in Indian cricket, Shubman Gill has replaced Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain ahead of India’s white-ball tour of Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s ODI and T20I squad for the Australia tour on Saturday, October 14. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the vice-captain in ODIs, and will serve as Gill’s deputy in the Australia series.
Former captains Rohit and Virat Kohli are both part of the ODI squad for the Australia tour and will be making their comeback for India for the first time since the Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed in the squad announcement presser that Rohit was informed about the decision that he will no longer captain India in ODIs.
Rohit and Kohli, who quit Test cricket within a week earlier this year, had retired from T20Is post the T20 World Cup last year and are only active in ODIs. The three-match ODI........
