Opinion | Bapu’s Swadeshi Vision & GST Reforms: A Step Towards A Developed India
India’s strongest weapon to counter the US tariff war is Bapu’s Swadeshi ideology. By following this path, the nation can not only overcome challenges but also become truly self-reliant. Amid rapidly shifting global diplomatic partnerships, India has maintained its traditional non-aligned stance, sometimes at a cost. However, by embracing Swadeshi and strengthening our economy, we can reduce dependence on others. Recently, the Union government has taken a historic step to strengthen the Indian economy by reforming GST rates. This move gives fresh momentum to India’s economic growth.
The True Meaning of Gandhi’s Swadeshi
Gandhi-ji’s concept of Swadeshi went far beyond merely using domestic products. It was a holistic vision encompassing economic, social, and spiritual dimensions. His goal was to make India self-reliant, free from foreign pressures, and rooted in its culture and traditions. Gandhi-ji believed that supporting local artisans and small-scale industries was the essence of Swadeshi. He advocated for every village to empower itself through skill and labour, which he considered true freedom and self-governance. For him, buying foreign goods weakened the nation, while embracing products made from local resources strengthened it. Swadeshi was not just an economic policy—it was a means to restore self-respect and cultural identity.
