Opinion | Operation Sindoor: India Punishes Pakistan’s Terrorism

On April 22, 2025, five Pakistan-sponsored terrorists belonging to The Resistance Front (TRF) & Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) carried out a deadly and heinous attack on tourists in Baisaran Valley, which is near Pahalgam town in Anantnag district

The attackers asked the tourists for their names and religious identities and targeted Hindu men. After separating them from others, they were brutally killed. Hindu women were reportedly spared, with the perpetrators stating that they should recount the horrors of the attack to India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The barbaric attack sent shockwaves across the nation, igniting widespread grief, condemnation, and a unified call for justice.

Countries across the world including the US, UK, Russia, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE also condemned the attacks unequivocally and expressed condolences with the victims of the attack.

In the early hours of May 7, 2025, India carried out a coordinated tri-services operation involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force (IAF), striking nine terror facilities across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

Among the Pakistani targets were camps located in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya, regions known for harboring and facilitating terrorist activities. These locations have long been identified as operational hubs for groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen, which have been linked to cross-border terrorism and attacks in India.

Bahawalpur has historically served as a stronghold for JeM, with reports suggesting that the group’s leadership and recruitment efforts have been based there. Muridke, on the other hand, has been widely recognized as the headquarters of LeT, with extensive infrastructure allegedly used for training and indoctrination. Sarjal and Mehmoona Joya are sites for militant training and logistical operations.

The Government of India stated: “Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution."
