Opinion | Why Congress Can Never Put RSS, Taliban-Muslim Brotherhood In Same Box
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in his Red Fort speech this Independence Day, interests far and wide got aflutter.
In spite of 100 years of unsparing, often violent efforts of so-called secular forces, the RSS has got legitimised. But the most powerful office in India venerating Sangh from arguably the most hallowed official platform was acutely dismaying for them.
On August 15, the Prime Minister congratulated the RSS for completing 100 years. “Hundred years of service to the nation is a proud, golden chapter. With the resolve of vyakti nirman se rashtra nirman (individual-building to nation-building), with the aim of the welfare of Maa Bharati, swayamsevaks have sacrificed their lives to the welfare of our motherland," Modi said, ahead of the Sangh’s centenary celebrations on September 25. “In a way, RSS is the world’s biggest NGO. It has a history of 100 years of dedication."
This simple act of praise tears down the well-maintained demeanour of the ‘secular’ (a word inserted into the Constitution through the backdoor) India and dares to delve into the civilisation’s Hindu soul.
It upsets forces who have made naked minoritism and appeasement their currency to power, and invested for decades on killing the Hindu’s instinct for self-preservation and survival.
Which is perhaps why the attack came fast and furious from the Congress. But in its blind rage, the party has been choosing the wrong weapon for the right target.
Senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad, former MP and now a member of the Karnataka legislative council, compared the RSS to the Taliban.
