Two city councillors in Vancouver have thrown an impotent fit over a Harry Potter “Forbidden Forest Experience” walking tour set to come to Vancouver’s Stanley Park this fall. Cancel it, they demanded — don’t you know that J.K. Rowling is a witch? (Considering the number of times Rowling has thwarted her own cancellation, I, too, am beginning to wonder if she might indeed be some sort of enchantress.)

The CBC, in turn, has drummed the councillors’ ineffective outburst into a full-fledged “controversy,” complete with radio segments and a news story implying that fault lies with J.K. Rowling — who is now perhaps equally as famous for writing Harry Potter as she is for standing up for women’s rights.
