The NFIB’s latest survey showed confidence rising again, fueled by founders’ optimism for their own companies and the economy.

Despite flatlining U.S. job creation rates and declining consumer confidence, Main Street entrepreneurs are more optimistic than they’ve been since January. Small-business owners expect that both their own companies and broader economic growth will improve in the next few months, accounting for their improved outlook, according to recent surveys.

The latest of those upbeat polls came with this week’s release of the National Federation of Independent Business’s (NFIB) Optimism Index results for August. The survey found member confidence rose last month to 100.8 points, half a point higher than in July. That lifted the indicator three points above its 52-year average level of........
