When serial entrepreneur Shizu Okusa heads to the Four Seasons Kyoto for a weeklong stay this fall, her trip will not be a typical vacation. There will be no shopping excursions; no meals at one of the hundreds of Michelin-star restaurants in the city. The plan is to disconnect with meditation, hot springs, forest bathing, and tea ceremonies—with more than a dozen of her customers.
The founder and CEO of Apothékary is expanding the reach of her herbal medicine business from packaged remedies into experiential ones “in a time that people need it the most,” she says. Her company is hosting its first-ever customer retreat, which has been dubbed the Journey East and is inspired by Okusa and her parents’ Japanese heritage.
