A Tory politician who used a racist slur about Chinese people has defected to Reform UK.

Laura Anne Jones, who is a member of the Welsh Senedd, was forced to apologise for her comments in a WhatsApp group chat.

In an exchange about TikTok, a message from Jones said: “No c****y spies for me!”

Jones, who held a number of frontbench roles for the Welsh Conservatives, last year said her comment was “unacceptable and I deeply regret using it”.

“I sincerely apologise for any offence this has caused,” she added.

Jones also had to apologise in 2021 for a Facebook post in which she said: “I would like to do a spot of Chav shooting.” She also said it was “a shame that isn’t legal”.
