Donald Trump appears to have finally realised that Vladimir Putin may not want the Ukraine war to end after all.

The US president conceded that it was “possible that he doesn’t want to make a deal”, just a day after saying the opposite to Emmanuel Macron.

Trump was caught on a hot mic telling the French president: “I think he wants to make a deal for me, you understand that? As crazy as it sounds.”

The exchange came after the US president held talks on ending the war, which began with Russia’s invasion in 2022, with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders in the White House.
