Peter Mandelson is fighting to save his political career over his links to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The UK’s ambassador to Washington has admitted there are more “embarrassing” revelations to come about his friendship with the billionaire financier, who died in 2019.

Keir Starmer, who appointed the Labour peer to the plum diplomatic role, was forced to say he still has “confidence” in Lord Mandelson as he was mauled over the row by Kemi Badenoch at prime minister’s questions.

An alleged “birthday book” released earlier this week by the House Oversight Committee in America contained a message to from Mandelson in which he described Epstein as his “best pal”.

Some of Epstein’s victims have called for Mandelson to be sacked from his ambassador role.
