Downing Street has said it is “gravely concerned” about the killing of five journalists in Gaza by the Israel Defense Forces.
The Al-Jazeera employees died following a targeted air strike near Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital on Sunday.
They included Anas al-Sharif, one of the broadcaster’s most prominent journalists who has reported from Gaza throughout the war.
Israel has claimed that he “served as the head of a terrorist cell in Hamas”, although it has provided no evidence to back up that accusations.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a total of 186 reporters have been killed in Gaza since Israel began its offensive in the territory in October 2023.
