Liz Truss has criticised the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, despite praising it in the past.

In her latest bizarre rant, the former prime minister claimed that the spectacular ceremony did not express “the views of the average Briton”.

However, speaking in 2013, she said the ceremony had “seamlessly combined Isambard Kingdom Brunel and William Shakespeare, Tim Berners-Lee and Mary Poppins”.

Truss – who lasted 49 days as prime minister before being forced to resign – made her apparent U-turn while being interviewed by American right-winger Ben........
