Nigel Farage has called on Keir Starmer to let him nominate some Reform UK members to join the House of Lords.
But a video unearthed by HuffPost UK shows that the party leader used to have a very different attitude towards parliament’s upper chamber.
Farage has written to the prime minister claiming it is unfair that parties like the Lib Dems and Greens have peers, but Reform does not.
In his letter, he said: “My party received over 4.1 million votes at the general election in July 2024. We have since won a large number of seats in local government, led in the national opinion polls for many months and won the only by-election of this parliament.”
In what he said was a “modest request”, Farage said “Reform UK wishes to appoint life peers to the upper house at the earliest possible opportunity”.
But speaking on LBC in 2018, the Reform chief had a very different opinion on the Lords, which he said should be abolished altogether.
