Emily Thornberry is appealing for support from Labour MPs as she weighs up whether to stand to be deputy leader.

HuffPost UK has seen a message she has sent to colleagues saying the government has made “too many mistakes” on issues like welfare reform and Gaza.

In direct criticism of No.10, she said the current party leadership “aren’t listening” to the concerns of MPs.

The message also contains a clip from comments she made on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg in which she revealed she was considering standing.

She said: “I’m thinking about it … it’s really a question of what can I bring to it.”

MPs hoping to run for deputy leader have until 5pm on Thursday to get at least 80 nominations from Labour MPs.
