Russia launched hundreds of drones and missiles at targets in Ukraine at the same time as Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin were holding talks aimed at ending the war.

The presidents discussed proposals aimed at delivering a peace deal more than three years after Putin ordered his troops to invade their neighbour.

European leaders, including Keir Starmer, also took part in round-table talks aimed at bringing about an end to the conflict.

But Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s foreign minister, revealed that at the same time, Russia was continuing its brutal bombardment of his country.

That is despite Putin attending a summit titled “Pursuing Peace” with Trump in Alaska last Friday.
