Both Donald Trump and one of Vladimir Putin’s ministers have finally admitted to what the rest of the West has known for while: that their supposed friendship is not going to help end the Ukraine war any time soon.

The US president was quick to revive his warm relationship with the Russian tyrant once he returned to the White House earlier this year.

Trump offered to end the Ukraine war on Putin’s terms by demilitarising Ukraine and forcing it to hand its occupied territories over to the aggressor.

He then rolled out the red carpet for Putin in Alaska back in August, arranging a rare face-to-face meeting with the pariah.
