How Low Can They Go? All The Ways The Tories Have Started Lurching Further Right

Kemi Badenoch has unveiled a series of hard-hitting right-wing policies at her first conference as the Conservative Party leader.

Having been elected last November, the North West Essex MP insisted she would only reveal her plans for government in 2027, as the party recovered from their historic loss at the 2024 general election.

But, amid Reform UK’s rise in the polls – and its ability to pinch many disillusioned Tories along the way – it seems Badenoch has had a change of heart.

In a bid to win back those voters, Badenoch appears to have doubled-down on her hardline policies, even taking inspiration from Donald Trump and Nigel Farage.

Here’s what we know so far.

Replicate ‘ICE’

The Tories have unveiled a new Trumpian-style approach to immigration which, according to Badenoch, is “modelled on” the US’s controversial Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the States.

She wants to introduce a “Removals Force” if she becomes prime minister, while also deporting 150,000 immigrants per year.

The Tories would also end the use of hotels to home asylum seekers.

Leave the ECHR

The Tories officially want to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in the hope that it would make it easier to deport illegal immigrants and failed asylum seekers.
