Homelessness Minister Said To Have Kicked Out Her Own Tenants, Then Hiked Up The Rent
Rushanara Ali is the homelessness minister.
The homelessness minister decided to kick out her own tenants and then hike the rent up last year, according to reports.
The i newspaper has reported that Rushanara Ali told the four tenants who lived in her east London house that they would not have their lease renewed last November, giving them four months’ notice to leave.
The property was then re-listed with an extra £700 added to the rent – meaning it cost £4,000 per month.
The Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow was renting her house out on a fixed-term contract and tried to put it up for sale while the tenants were still living there.
She then reportedly had to re-list it as a rental because it was not sold.
A source close to Ali told the newspaper that the tenants had been told they could stay on a rolling basis while the property was on the market but they had decided to move........
