Donald Trump has just insisted that “nothing” will get in the way of the ceasefire he brokered for the Israel-Hamas conflict – but his words are at odds with exactly what has just happened on the ground.

At least 50 Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli strikes on Gaza overnight, according to local hospitals and the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency.

Civil infrastructure including schools and residential blocks were hit by Israeli attacks.

The Civil Defence also warned the death toll may rise because of the missing people trapped under rubble.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he had ordered his military to carry out “forceful strikes” in Gaza but did not say why.
