Adolescence's Owen Cooper, EastEnders star and Gary Lineker were among this year's National Television Award recipients

It will probably come as no great surprise to discover that the British Netflix drama Adolescence one of two big winners at this year’s National Television Awards.

During Wednesday night’s NTAs, Adolescence came away with two awards, including Best New Drama and Best Drama Performance for its teen star Owen Cooper.

The 15-year-old – who is currently gearing up for the Emmys this weekend – was unable to attend the NTAs in person, so his co-star Amari Bacchus accepted the award on his behalf, playing Owen’s acceptance speech on his phone.
