In Flight Reviews: What Are Critics Saying About The Slow Horses Director's New Show?
Katherine Kelly plays Jo in the new Channel 4 drama In Flight
Fans of Slow Horses may well want to check out Channel 4’s latest dramatic offering.
Slow Horses director Adam Randall – who helmed the hit spy series’ fourth season – has co-created a new drama for Channel 4, titled In Flight, which began airing on Tuesday night, and continues on Wednesday and Thursday.
The drama centres around a young man who is accused of murder while on holiday in Bulgaria, leading to his air hostess mum (played by Katherine Kelly, best known for her work in Happy Valley, Mr Selfridge, Gentlemen Jack, Criminal: UK and, of course, Coronation Street) to turn to drug trafficking in an attempt to spare him from prison.
Given Slow Horses’ enduring popularity, you might be curious about how this latest drama fares – and so far, it’s had pretty good reviews, although some critics have suggested it may be a little on the bleak side for some viewers’ tastes.
Here’s a selection of what’s been said about In Flight so far…
“Kelly’s approach to Jo isn’t phoned in. There is real grit and desperation to the way she claws herself through every obstacle, as the drama unfolds.
“Even so, the whole show isn’t riding on her talent alone. The writing [is] as impressively tight as Jo’s expression the whole way through. There is beat by beat tension that causes you to lean dangerously close to the screen, in anticipation of what will happen next.”
