Owen Cooper pictured after winning his first Emmy

British actor Owen Cooper made history at this year’s Emmys, where he became the youngest ever male performer to take home an award.

The Adolescence star had been nominated in the Best Supporting Actor In A Limited Series, Anthology Series Or TV Drama category for his performance as teenager Jamie Miller in the Netflix drama.

Just days after being awarded for his performance the UK’s own National Television Awards (delivering his acceptance speech via a co-star’s mobile phone as he was unable to attend the ceremony) he picked up his first Emmy.

He told the crowd on Sunday night: “Standing up here is just… it’s just so surreal. When I started these drama classes a couple of years back, I didn’t expect to even be in the United States, never mind here.”
